The end of August always feels like a turning point.

Back-to-school signals a shift in rhythm. The days are still hot, but the light is different. Fall is on its way — and with it, a new season.

At home on the farm, we’ve been living inside that transition in a very real way.

Our garden — once just sketches on paper and seeds under grow lights in the basement — is now a wild tangle of vines and color. Tomatoes burst with ripeness. Zucchinis prove that nature doesn’t do moderation. The pumpkin patch sprawls with abandon. So much of it has a mind of its own.

What began with quiet planning in the coldest months of winter is now a full-on harvest season — chaotic, beautiful, and demanding. We’ve had help come and go, and I’ve found myself back in the thick of it, pruning, hauling, preserving, trying to keep up with nature’s timeline while recalibrating our own support system.

And still — it’s worth it.

Because there’s something deeply meaningful about not just planting and watching things grow, but doing the hard work of harvesting. Of preserving food we nurtured from seed. Of turning what was once a dormant garden bed into a nourishing family meal.

That process — seed to fruit to feast — reminds me of the way real wealth is built, too.

There Are Seasons in Investing, Just Like in Life

Some of our projects are just beginning. We’re welcoming new investors, allocating capital, and setting the foundations. The soil bed is being prepared. The seeds are going in.

Others are in the growing season — buildings going vertical, doors opening, tenants moving in. This is the nurturing phase: executing the business plan, staying present, and adapting as needed.

And still others are ripening — stabilized assets now positioned for exit. Harvest time.

Across the portfolio, we’re experiencing all three seasons at once — and each one requires a different kind of care. But all of them are essential to the full life cycle of an investment.

It’s tempting to only focus on the “harvest” moments — the sale, the distributions, the celebration. But without the messy in-between seasons, there would be no fruit.
