The New Era of Investor Marketing: 4 Reflections on My First Year at Hearthfire
By Kateri Foley, Director of Growth & Marketing
As I look back on my first year at Hearthfire Holdings, one lesson stands above the rest; while campaigns create awareness, it’s relationships that sustain trust and drive reinvestment.
Over the past twelve months, I’ve had the privilege of helping our team deepen those relationships by blending data-driven marketing with genuine, high-touch engagement. Along the way, our investors have been clear in their feedback. What they value most is communication, transparency, and consistent opportunities to connect.
Campaigns Create Awareness, but Relationships Create Confidence
Digital campaigns remain an important cornerstone of our outreach. Webinars, newsletters, and educational content allow us to reach investors at scale, deliver timely insights, and showcase opportunities. But on their own, campaigns don’t inspire the confidence required for meaningful investment decisions.
Our investors and partners are sophisticated. They seek clarity, transparency, and consistency. They want to understand the risks as well as the rewards, and they expect open communication over time. That confidence is built not in a single campaign, but in a relationship.
Listening to Our Investors
This year, we conducted an investor survey to better understand what matters most to our partners. The results reinforced the importance of relationship-building:
The results were clear: investors value honesty, access, and performance, all of which are strengthened through relationships, not campaigns.
Where Relationships Truly Form: In-Person Engagement
The most meaningful moments of the past year didn’t happen in inboxes or dashboards, they happened through shared experiences. From our Annual Holiday gathering in Philadelphia, to celebrating the opening of our new headquarters and shifting into a more in-person work environment, to welcoming investors for one-on-one visits where they could meet the team and sit in on meetings, these touchpoints brought our community closer together. Most recently, we had the privilege of gathering at Sergio and Corinn’s Firethorne Farm residence for an afternoon of swimming, great conversation, and shared meals, a true reflection of the culture we’re building.
These experiences transform relationships from transactional to truly personal. Investors don’t just see a pro-forma. They see the people, the culture, and the purpose behind the numbers. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue expanding this interpersonal programming: from digital webinars and on-site property tours to hosting educational sessions with experts and personal development seminars. Each is designed to strengthen the bonds of trust and partnership that sit at the heart of our mission.
Blending Digital Scale with Human Touch
Technology still plays a vital role. Tools like HubSpot and analytics enable us to deliver timely updates, stay organized, and ensure no one falls through the cracks. Every workflow we’ve built this year has been designed to support, not replace, personal engagement.
A typical investor journey might begin with a webinar, continue with a personal call to answer questions, and culminate with an invitation to an in-person event. The digital infrastructure provides scale, but the human connection builds trust.
The Payoff: Loyalty, Reinvestment, and Advocacy
The results of the relationship-first approach speak for themselves. More than 90% of our investors reinvest in subsequent opportunities, and many become advocates, introducing family, friends, and colleagues to Hearthfire. These outcomes aren’t the result of one campaign or one meeting, they’re the product of consistent and authentic engagement.
Conclusion: Looking Ahead
Reflecting on my first year at Hearthfire, one theme stands out: campaigns may get attention, but relationships build lasting partnerships. As we look forward, our focus is on deepening those connections and creating more opportunities for education, engagement, and shared experiences.
At Hearthfire, we believe the future of investor engagement will be built less in inboxes and more across tables, tours, and shared experiences.
